Root canal treatment:
There’s no need to be worried if your dentist or endodontist prescribes a root canal procedure to treat a damaged or diseased tooth. Root canal treatments are often a straightforward procedure to relieve dental pain and save your teeth. Patients typically need a root canal when there is inflammation or infection that has involved the living portion of your tooth called the PULP. During root canal treatment, an endodontist who specializes in such treatment carefully removes the pulp inside the tooth, cleans, disinfects and shapes the root canals, and places a filling to seal the space.
Will a a root canal hurt?
Since patients are given anesthesia, a root canal isn’t more painful than a regular dental procedure, such as a filling or getting a wisdom tooth removed. However in case of severe infection, your endodontist will put you on some medication(antibiotics/painkillers),to help control the spread of infection or for pain management.
How do you know if you need a root canal?
Patients generally need a root canal when they notice their teeth are sensitive, particularly to hot and cold sensations. However during your initial visit, the resident doctors take a few intra oral x rays which help us reach a proper diagnosis.
Can I go to college or work after getting a root canal?
Although you will most likely be numb for 2-4 hours following the procedure, most patients are able to return to college or work directly following a root canal. However, our specilaists advise against eating until the numbness is completely gone.
How long does a root canal take?
Although it varies based on the type of tooth, a root canal takes roughly 30-90 minutes to complete per tooth.root canals can also be completed in a single visit,or it might require 2 to 3 visits depending on the case. For retreatment cases (being treated again), procedure times can change wildly.
For more information on root canal procedures, we recommend a one on one consultation with our endodontists, who will do a thorough diagnosis and answer your queries about root canals. Call 9008647868 for appointments!
